Christy's late eagle wins North of
Scotland Seniors Open

An eagle 3 at the 16th helped Colin Christy from Kilmacolm with the North of Scotland senior men's open amateur championship at wet and windy Nairn Dunbar Golf Club today (Friday).
One off the pace overnight, Christy looked as though he had blown his victory chance in the 36-hole event when he lost a ball an double-bogeyed the 10th. But, by getting home in two at the par-5 16th, and holing the putt, Christy put himself back on track for a one-stroke victory from John Fraser (Royal Burgess).
Christy totalled 71 and 72 for one-under-par 143.
Fraser, a former shinty ace with Newtonmore and almost a local with his knowledge of the Nairn golf courses, shot 71 and 73 to come up one short on 144. He faced a short putt at the last, which would have tied Christy - there are no play-offs on the Scottish Senior Golfing Society circuit - but John was distracted by some movement at the side of the green.
Instead of stepping back and composing himself again, Fraser jabbed his vital putt wide of the hole.
Title favourite Ian Hutcheon from Monifieth and Ron McLellan (Turnberry) finished joint third on 145. Hutch shot 72 and 73, McLellan, the overnight leader, 70 and 75.
There was a field of 94.
Next event on the Scottish seniors' amateur circuit is the West of Scotland seniors championship at Hamilton in three weeks.
